Girls' Addictions
Saturday, September 13, 2008 @ 10:22 AM

Did you know that "teenage girls are trying marijuana, alcohol and cigarettes at higher rates than boys"? When I read this, I was slightly shocked. So I started reading other articles on the topic, so I could write a post of high standard.

"Drug and alcohol addiction doesn’t discriminate – it affects men, women, teens, adults, and people of all races and backgrounds. Teenagers, and particularly teenage girls, are especially vulnerable to the physical and psychological effects of substance abuse as their brains and bodies are continually developing. At an age when most kids are breaking away from their parents, exploring their career interests, and establishing lifelong bonds with friends and partners, teens who are addicted to drugs or alcohol face an entirely different challenge just to get back to normal adolescent life." - 4therapy.com

The main reason for this is pressure, in my opinion. School, work, boyfriends, family, friends might be too much sometimes and this puts girls under stress. Girls try to gain more self-confidence and power (through alcohol or drugs) to face their unique issues.

And in addition to that, women tend to develop serious illnesses like cancer or mental disorders faster than men do. Alcohol only helps these diseases to break out.

All in all, keep holding on SGs! Don't hide your problems, share your feelings with your friends (or family), and don't overwork yourselves! And finally, take the good with the bad. No one is happy all the time, right?
