Babysitting?
Sunday, September 21, 2008 @ 8:58 AM

Getting pocket money from parents is awesome, but you shouldn't rely on them too much. If you want to buy something badly, why not abandon waiting for the beginning of the next month and get a job instead?

Babysitting is a pretty girly job, because of various reasons. I'm not going to list them, for sure.
Anyway, there are some rules for getting this job. I didn't write these tips (for the record), but thought it may be helpful for you all.
  • Make sure you have experience in babysitting, or you can get a reference from someone who thinks you will do well. Your experience can even just by having watched your little brother or sister.

  • Know the going rate. Determine how much you want to be paid, how many children you can handle, and what time can you babysit until.

  • Ask your relatives, friends, or parents' co-workers if they know anyone who needs a babysitter.

  • Advertise. Nobody's going to come to you if you don't advertise! Go around your neighbourhood and look for people who are outside with children. Tell them that you can help babysit if they need help. Don't use fliers with your personal information.

  • Arrange to meet the people who need a babysitter. You will need to find out: how many children will you need to take care of, what will be your pay, emergency numbers and other safety concerns. Also, be certain to find out how you will get there and how you will get back home.

  • Ask them if you will need to bring your own food.

  • Ask them to refer you to others. After you have done a job, you can ask their parents if they can tell others about you. That way a lot of people would know that you can help!
  • Arrive a few minutes early at the first day, so the parents can tell any additional information, and meet the kids.
Make a list of stuff to bring with you (pencils, games, etc.). Report to the parents about the happenings at the end of each day.
Also, be nice and clean up the mess you and/or the children have made.
